Patonga Pelican Linocut

 Linocut 10 cm x 13cm
One of my favourite things about going home to Australia is to see the pelicans at Patonga.  Well it won't be long now but in the meantime I've made this two plate linocut.  Not sure which I prefer.  I think the first one.

I love pelicans, they always look so superior don't they? We don't get them here unfortunately, so I have to rely on other sources to draw from for them.

This print is wonderful. I think I prefer the subtle colours of the first one too

The first one for me, too.It looks "cleaner" Did you clear away more lino after the other run?

Thanks Jeanette, I miss them so much, living far from the sea.

Di, it started out as a single plate but, while I was happy with the pelican, I made a mess of the water. I decided to remove everything around the bird then printed it on a second piece of Lino then it was only a matter of carving out the bird and creating a new stretch of water. The advantage was that I can easily print multiple colours.
I haven't forgotten I owe joy an email, sorry.

Di, after all that I realise I misunderstood your question. No, the plate for the two prints is exactly the same. They were printed in a book press. I must have applied more pressure on the second, picking up more of the carving marks.

"Going home to Australia"... that sounds so exotic and enticing! I like your rendition of the pelican very much. It has a crispness and liveliness about it with the way you did the shapes adn colors. Your so creative with all the different things you do!

Lovely Lino. I don't know which one I like best. They are different but both excellent.
