True colour is somewhere between these two images!
thumbnail to assist colour memory
After making a light pencil sketch on my walk this morning I discovered my paints were still on my desk at home - 4900 steps away. I decided to test my 'colour memory' as per Katherine Tyrrell's recent post on Making a Mark. I was surprisingly happy with the result - but not with attempts to photograph the painting.

Good on you for keeping up the roving sketchplan. So glad you left your watercolours at home, as I love the version with bright blue trees - its often better to use ones memory for colour then you can put what you felt.
You live in a beautiful place to find such delights during your walks. I love the idea of sketchercise...But can't join because I wouldn't be committed enough, sadly. But you did a lovely job with this little painting. I really like it, especially the depth of the trees on the left side. I think your photo is just fine!
Joan - Thank you - the bright blue trees aren't really that bright. If I can work out my colour adjustment problems I'll repost the photos.
Autumn Leaves - How do you know you wouldn't be committed enough? I was helped get into the routine by committing to walking with a friend - neither of us wanted to be the one to let the other down. Now she's heading back to Australia I've transferred my commitment to my goal to paint more. It doesn't mean I'm thrilled when I hear the alarm sound at 6.30am!
These little watercolor sketches are fantastic! As someone new to sketching, do you usually paint on the spot or once you get home? I prefer to work really small like this and love the size.
I need to get motivated and make a commitment to something like sketchercise! :)
Dana - Many thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying my little paintings. Up until today I had been painting them on the spot. I'll be back to doing that tomorrow because I certainly won't forget my paints again!
If you go to the Sketchercise ning you will find a link to the Flicker site where Katherine is encouraging people who want to join Sketchercise to start by posting their sketches - proof of commitment ;)
Thanks Robin. When I get a little more confidence, I might just do that!
You are certainly givin me a feel for the lovely area you are living in, nice and lively little paintings.
Well that was pretty jolly clever. I will have to test out my colour memory (when it gets a bit warmer).
