May 2005 - Two Australians moved to Tuscany where they planned to live for two years. Two weeks later their dogs, Snowy and Dermott, arrived. Seven years and a property purchase later, they're still here.

Olive Grove Watercolour
A long walk up the valley this morning, passing and rejecting endless postcard scenes. What is it that makes one reject one subject for another? I suspect a lot of the time, for me anyway, it's because they are too difficult.
I finally reached the beautiful little church, Madonna del Bagno and caught the priest standing outside making his morning prayer. Turning my back on the church (too difficult), I sat down and painted God's Little Olive Grove.

This is a beautiful little painting. I often choose what to paint based on whether I think I can do it also. That said, that church with the priest out front sounds as though it would make a beautiful painting!
Another really nice one, Robyn!
What a great way to start the day (you taking a nice walk and me looking at your paintings). I love your little watercolors.
It will be great to see all these beautiful little watercolours together, when you're finished with this series (if ever - I'm sure it could carry on and on!) I think an exhibition should be on the horizon...
Candy - Thank you so much.
Cathy - Thank you. I'm hugging your comment with delight!
I agree with Cathy, these are delightful and could well make an exhibition. I have so much trouble trying to sketch stuff that I havent done before, and yet that is what I see around me every day. Living on a farm has its drawbacks and I dont do animals at all well!
This and the last few posts are a beautiful series - and that 3 inch one is just packed with atmosphere and yet so tiny!
What a lovely story of your walk and sketch of the olive grove. How about the church and priest next time - I am sure you could ask him to meditate for a few moments for you to capture him with a few quick strokes of your brush as you have become so proficient???
Penny - I'd run a mile from a cow - in reality and with a brush. Actually I love the look of cattle but haven't yet attempted to paint them. And thank you for thinking I can get together an exhibition. I do hope you are right.
Vivien - Thanks, Vivien. I love this little square format. Painting one each day I'm really hoping I'm going to get better - even find my 'style'.
Joan - Haven't you noticed the lack of people in my paintings ;) Actually I felt a bit embarrassed to find the priest in a private moment of prayer but he didn't seem to mind. A few minutes later he was sweeping up leaves.
Robyn, all of your recent landscape work is just beautiful! You've really go the luminous paintings thing going on!!
