May 2005 - Two Australians moved to Tuscany where they planned to live for two years. Two weeks later their dogs, Snowy and Dermott, arrived. Seven years and a property purchase later, they're still here.

A Day in My Life - Cartoon Strip
I was charmed by a recent post by British artist, Vivien Blackburn on her blog Painting, Prints & Stuff.
Vivien had been inspired by illustrator Liz Minichiello to try a cartoon strip based on a day in her life.
Vivien's beautifully rendered effort inspired me to come up with this rather slapdash effort. But I had fun.

TOO FUNNY, Robyn -- sounds like a day ...!!!!!
Lin - How great. I was just enjoying your blog while you were visiting mine! Most of my days are like the above - except for the weeding, that's why they have grown into such monsters!
This is great, Robyn - I can never draw anything I'm not actually looking at! I may try though...
Sigh, I like your day so much better than mine...
but what I really like is that LIZARD in your other post!!!!! He's perfect Robyn. Beautifully balanced angles and curves, darks and lights, crunchy pattern and loose wash... and the way the color seems to emanate from the paper itself and cast a beautiful light on the lizard. Hiroshige would be proud!
Robyn, I liked your comic strip so much I went and checked out Vivien's too. I had to laugh that the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night is Dermott's big head. :)
Casey - I don't usually draws from imagination either, so this was interesting. I've obviously spent a lot of time staring at Dermott's fat butt! He's like a big bear from the rear end.
Judi - I'm rolling around the floor in delight! Thank you :)
Stacy - Lovely to see you again. You are absolutely right - Dermott bookends my days.
Giggle,giggle...love this one! I told Vivien I'd do this if I can make time.So I'd better get cracking...
seems like a nice day to me. Love the "bucket" of wine. What italian lessons are you listening to? I just got some Pimsleur ones from library and I like them.
Fabulous sketches that encompass your day Robyn. I'm trying to free up some time this week to do a snapshot of my day as well.
Isn't it funny how we have animals dictating our lives... ;)
these are GREAT!!!!
slapdash?? not at all!
full of character and really evocative
please will you leave a link to this in my comments so other people can see it and the links are all there to everones versions together?
thanks :>)
Vivien
Dinah - Thanks and we'll keep you to that. I figure animals will be a theme in your day too!
Jeanette - That's generous of you.:) I can't wait to see your cartoon.
I'm thinking this might be a fun journal to create and continue. Another distraction from 'serious' painting though.
Vivien - Thank you! It's a very entertaining challenge you've posed. I hope lots of people join in.
And thanks for posting my link on your blog - I was still trying to work out how to do it.
df - 'Bucket of Wine' is HWEM's term for the glass I choose.
I am using Pimsleur's Italian CDs. I thought I'd take the opportunity to give them a free plug because it is by far the best recorded Italian course I've found. Good luck with yours.
Yeah yeah, so it's artistic licence that my arse is somehow magically bigger than yours, is it?
What a delightful way to record your day. I might just have to try this myself.
back again...I did manage a quick one!
Still laughing at the outsize wine glass!
Chris (windblown) - I look forward to your 'day'. Had a great visit to your altered book blog today too. Do let me know when you post a cartoon.
Dinah - Well done on your cartoon day. I'd have a few unladylike words to say to a cat that woke me at 5am. I notice you then get up at that hour! Now I feel very slothful.
Oh, Robyn, I LOVED this closeup look at your life! So very charming---thank you so much for sharing these.
It's a day in Robyn's life!!! Cute idea!
Joan - Thank you. It was a cute idea of Vivien's.
Laura - Not to late to show us a day in your life. ;)
I actually meant - Not TOO late.....
before Dermott picks me up on it!
These are really great Robyn and I'm linking to this post from my blog today (Sunday).
However I really do think we ought to see Dermott's version too! ;)
Give me a second to grow a couple of opposable thumbs and I'll be right with you, toots.
Katherine - Thank you! I'm sure Dermott is plotting a 'comic' come back but I heard him muttering something earlier about lacking an opposable thumb!
Dermott - Yes, I do know it's comeback!
Pimsleur sounds interesting. I flicked right over to ebay and had a look. I wqas planning to go to Dante Alighieri to learn some more Italian before coming to Italy next year. How do you work out what level you are?
