Pears Two Ways

Pears - watercolour sketch Clairefontaine 7" x 9"

Pears - Derwent Inktense pencil sketch on Canson

We're having a heat wave! It's an effort to lift a brush, but the two little pears I thought would be pretty to paint were ripening at a pace, so I did a quick watercolour sketch followed by one with my new Inktense pencils. Now I'm going to eat the dear little things.

Does anyone else do this - eat their subjects? Fortunately I'm not working on portraits at present!

So glad we got to see the pears first, before they were devoured! Love the watercolor one...although..no, they're both lovely in their differences, can't choose! You seem to have our heat as well!!

YES! And it seems a little strange if I think about it too much. LOL The other day I wanted to use a very cool looking purple pepper in our dinner salad, but I had to photograph it first. Is there some kind of support group for this??!?!

I love your pair of pears! Especially since I've been missing your garden sketches.

Well, I have been known to devour my young! LOL. I had every intention of eating the eggplants I painted this week..but alas...they went soft on me, shriveled up and today I tossed them! You already know which is my favorite. Apart that the watercolour is handled beautiuflly in the first painting, the composition I think works better than the pencil version. The shadows under thepears in the pencil version are too sharp where as the softer washes in the wc one ground the pears nicely. It's too hot here too....I lounged in the pool sipping ice tea and indulging in the strawberry gelato I made earlier in the week...bliss!

Thank you all - as you will see from the post above, my little pears survived the night.
If I can get some Pecorino Sardo today, they can stop posing!

Ah yes, I too have been known to eat my subjects, tho I don't seem to have the control you do as I usually just snap a photo so I can eat them right away. I've even bought my subjects specifically to draw and eaten them anyway! There is a particular eggplant with a nose like an old man that comes to mind...

Anyway - lovely job with the water color. The way the shadows cradle the pears is very effective.
