May 2005 - Two Australians moved to Tuscany where they planned to live for two years. Two weeks later their dogs, Snowy and Dermott, arrived. Seven years and a property purchase later, they're still here.
The sunflowers in the garden continue to delight, mostly for the birds they are attracting. My watercolour effort feels strangely lifeless. I was happier with the quick sketches I made seeking the spirit of sunflowers.
Thank you, Katherine they are pretty easy to grow.
Sue - Thanks, Sue. I was delighted to have you drop in. I enjoy your blog very much when I get to visit. Now I see you might settle in Southern Italy. :)
I love the variety in these. Sunflowers always make me think of Italy--I saw miles of them there, and you captured their liveliness--I love this final flower--so spontaneous!

I love the watercolor sunflower above, AND the sketches both! You've made me want to plant some next year!
I like the looseness of your bottom 2 pictures. To me they capture the essence of sunflowers.

Those are the best sunflower portraits I've seen....

I also meant to comment that I like the way you made this last one look as if the seeds are almost 3-D here!
I vote for the pen and crayon sketch.....I love the movement of the lines.......it vibrates!
