Watercolour sketches

Moleskine watercolour sketchbook

The weather is still very changeable but there were real patches of sun this morning so I headed out to sketch a tiny detail of the valley we overlook from via Dante.

My local painting group is getting together again on Wednesday afternoons. This time everyone is trying watercolours rather than oils. I've been carrying around a photo from a trip to Venice. It's a beautiful old building full of decaying detail. With limited light and time, I restricted myself to sketching one of the doors.

Wonderful sketches Robyn. You will fill up that sketch book in no time, if you are going once a week. I look forward to your progress.

The light in these is SO lovely, Robyn. I especially like the textury darks behind the door.

Robyn love this latest snippet of your valley - such strong tones and delightful composition. As for the Venice door - right up my street as we say over here - love them - doorways I mean and Venice of course. Whenever am I going to do a series of works from my visit last year.

You took me right back to Italy, Robyn--you so captured this image here. These are both so lovely--I bet your sketchbook is wonderful to browse through.

I got very hung up on old doors last time I was in Europe. Should have photographed a lot more of them. Next time! Love this one.
Bucketing and bucketing rain here in Sydney. Street lights on in the middle of the day.

Lovely sketches, Robyn - lucky you, having a painting group! I find it realy helps to work with other people. I must get out and meet some artists who live near me!
I thought of you the other day while watching the movie "Copie Conforme" (the one Juliette Binoche just won a prize in Cannes for) - it takes place in Tuscany - you live in a gorgeous place!! One of these days we'll make it down there.

Jil - I'd say you've certainly been there :) Nice to hear from you. I look forward to looking at your photos too.

Casey - I managed to lock myself and Dermott out of the apartment yesterday and missed my watercolour group's first en plein air outing ;(
