Sketching Cats and Birds

Egyptian Goose I

Egyptian Goose II

Not following through on any art plans at present, just fooling around with whatever takes my fancy - today it was cats and birds.

The two geese are proof that practise doesn't always make perfect - I prefer the rough first sketch to the more considered second.

To use your own words, Egyptian Goose I has more 'melody of line' and I think I prefer him as well. And I love Cat I -- excellent use of interesting bits of paper, and a timely reminder that I keep meaning to try that myself. (I often collect collage 'possibles,' but then forget to do anything clever with them)

Thanks, Charlene. We Sketchercisers inspire each other! I'm becoming more and more excited about the potential of collage. Just need to do some research into copyright issues. It might be an interesting topic to throw to Katherine T. :)

What interesting sketches, particularly the cats.

Seems like your back is allowing a slightly longer session at your artwork - colour this time round. We get lots of Egyptian geese down by the river and I sure like your stylized versions. Interesting backgrounds for your cat studies too.
Hope things continue to improve.

Oh yes, I recognise those seagulls ;) I like the quality of line in both of the (definitely) geese - and their distinctive markings. I just love the cats though, that could be a great series. Surely copyright wouldn't be an issue... you're right, ask Katherine!

Wow - great "doodles"- and the cats are best (do tell Dermott!).

I think you get better and better the less you're focusing on being exact and the more you focus on the image. Must be all that printmaking rubbing off on your drawing - simplification in all things!

My copyright information site is Copyright and Orphan Artworks - Resources for Artists if that helps! ;)

Wow! Robyn, I love all of these sketches. I love how you've pared the geese down to blocks of color. I like the rough sketch best, also. The cats are both wonderful, too. I think I like the drawing on newsprint best! They're all inspiring!

Robyn - Lovely simplicity of line in these!! The first goose is great and I love the first cat. I've been itching to do some collage too. I'm planning on signing up for a class to get some ideas.

I love all the new encouragement, new ideas and pushes you give me. The cat sketches on newprint and color....wonderful. I really need to say it in a different way but I don't have another word. And you seagull is good too.:}

I love the geese and the cats! The cat on the phone book page looks just like my cat, Smitty.

Apologies all, I've missed publishing some comments lately. Overfull mail box, I'm afraid. As always I really appreciate and am encouraged by your support.

pve - Thank you too, I haven't been able to find an email address for you. I'd be delighted to do an interview :)
