Watercolour Woodblock Prints

Monotype Print with Engraved & Watercoloured Woodcut Block

I have finally found a way to combine my two great loves - watercolour and woodcut relief printing, thanks to a link from my dear friend, writer/painter Sally in Sydney and the technique of a fantastic Australian painter/ printmaker.

8 x 8cm block & monotype print

I kept the design of these two blocks simple because they were for test purposes and I didn't want to break my heart if they didn't work. They did work! If you click on the images you should be able to see the embossing in the larger view.

Further details tomorrow when I post a photo of the third print.

Stunning work Robyn...I love these designs! A nice series of these, I hope? The watercolor suits beautifully(the colours are so rich and velvety. you've really just exploded with your prints and rightly so!

very cool :D interesting how you can see the embossing, makes me want to run my fingers along the lines to feel them (possibly a little odd :p)

Ronell - Many thanks. Yes there is a series coming, I'm so excited about the process, I can't imagine making anything else at the moment - but hopefully the images will become more complex.

Sydney - Thank you, I'm glad you like them.

Jennifer - I haven't been called 'cool' for a while :) I love that you would like to run your fingers along the embossed lines - not odd at all, unless I'm odd too. ;)

Firstly, I noticed(without enlarging) the sharp embossing. Then I thought: hmm...Seaby? Phillips?
Really looking forward to more of your work, Robyn.

Dinah - No, not Seaby or Phillips - Which Phillips? I'm just as excited about this process this morning as I was yesterday!

You've been busy over there in Tuscany and Oh wow, what a wonderful technique. .. and such vibrant colours and designs. We all wish we could find a 'style' to call our own. Its a winner and something you must continue with - please!!.

I love these. So simple but so nice to look at. Great job. My head is still reeling. All of a sudden everyone is doing linocuts like someone made an announcement that it was the thing to do. lol

These are wonderful Robyn. The colours and the embossed lines are superb. Part print, part sculpture almost. I really like the three colours and how beautifully they turned out.

Robyn - these are very nice. Super graphical quality. I've realised seeing these that one of the qualities I like about print is the border of blank paper around the printed image - and the larger the better!

Jeanne - I guess this is how crazes start. :)

Really awesome Robyn. The colors are so striking and confident and at the same time the flower has come out real well. Simple and magical!!! Wish to see many such series.
