Apart from the Flying Pictures Sketchbook Exchange, I haven't been doing a lot of sketching lately because a few weeks ago I started a three month printmaking workshop. I found a wonderful teacher, Rick Woodbury with a beautiful studio right here in Castiglion Fiorentino. I couldn't believe my luck! Then I had to wait for more than a year for Rick to fit me into a workshop. I couldn't have wished for a better opportunity as the rest of the group is made up of American university students here at the Santa Chiara School for a semester studying art and architecture. They are keeping me on my toes!
I'm going to post all my efforts from the beginning in the hope that it will be a record of my evolving skill.

The lesson I learned from the last two prints was that if I am going to experiment, it's a good idea to experiment on proper paper. I have a tendency to over-ink my plates, so Rick suggested I make a second print from the same plate. I used a piece of scrap newsprint (notice the text) and, of course, ended up liking this second print best.
I have some more monoprints to post but I have now moved on to drypoint and hardground etching which I think better suits my desire to draw.
The little snail at the top of this post was my first effort at linocut where I've had access to a decent press. I've since made a whole series in different colours.

Robyn - these are superb! I have a real weakness for prints, its a medium that I have always wanted to learn. I've done some very basic printmaking - nothing that looks nearly as impressive as these. I envy you this workshop and will be watching your progress with interest!
How fabulous are these! Lucky you to get into a workshop like this. I haven't done much with printmaking, but its on my wishlist. There is a very good printmaking place in town and one of these days I will take a course!
I love all of these pieces, but the snail is so appealing.
This looks like such a fun class!!! It is funny that your second print (on the scrap paper) is the one that came out the best...typical!!! Have fun!
Robyn, is there nothing you can't do??? Your prints are lovely and it sounds like the new workshop will be lots of fun. I had to chuckle over the second print on scrap paper. I think every artists has had a similar experience. The works on lousy paper always turn out best! Enjoy your workshop!

I am so thrilled for you and so envious, too---I've been meaning to try linocuts, but just have not been able to fit them into my life! These are gorgeous and you are so talented.

I too started a printmaking class for the first time at the local college. Having a great time. Your work is so nice! Thanks for sharing. Will be back to see more in the days to come.

Oh wowy - what a lucky girl to find a super printing course on your doorstep. Shows how good the tutor is with a year to wait - but your early successes show how well worth it. Looking forward to your progress if these are your first attempts.
oh, so you are on a new adventure!!! How wonderful! I love your efforts so far. Our local art museum is big on monoprinting workshops; I might have to take one sometime.
