Inside Story - FP Sketchbook Exchange

I sent off my handmade FlyingPictures concertina sketchbook, Different Strokes on Monday. It's now arrived safely in Casey's studio in France.

This has been the most beautiful Spring for wildflowers since we moved to Tuscany. I painted them in an olive grove outside the village, then added detail of the flowers.

I felt the painting turned out a bit too much like a chocolate box illustration but it's a weakness of mine, not knowing what to leave out. The bee was an attempt to show I'm not taking myself too seriously!

The book is 18 x 26 cm and I started it with 300gm HP watercolour paper. It is up to each artist in the exchange to choose the paper for the pages they add. The cover is a chocolate brown embossed paper. The bookmark lists the artists and their location.

Now it's over to Casey. I can't wait to see what she brings to Different Strokes.

Wonderful sketches. I like the irregular outside of the image!

Congrats on your group blog, too. The self made books are fascinating.

How fun! I have seen this done in the magazine "Signatures, The Art Journal Collection" by Somerset Studio. I was very intrigued. It will be fun to see the book when you get it back.

P.S. I really like this painting you did for the book, and, of course, the poppy.

That is just beautiful. I wish I win an Italian olive grove. Even a Spanish one would do. It hasn't really got properly light in Sydney today.

Thanks everyone! I feel privileged to be part of this exchange.

Judi - I went Wow, wow, wow, wow when I saw your beautiful contributions in the Moly Exchange.

Wendy - I used to wish for an olive grove too, until I picked olives for a couple of hours one day and then, immediately retired! Now I'm content with the one small tree we have in the garden.

Robyn, I love the contrast between both your images. The lovely soft grove next to those bold colorful flowers. Lovely! Can't wait my turn to see it IRL

Lindsay - Thank you :) I'm having so much fun playing fast and loose with your book - amazing the freedom of working on a page that isn't yet permanently in the book. I can still wake up in the morning and have second thoughts.

This is so beautifully illustrated it must be amazing to see in the 'flesh'!

Btw, Robyn, I took a photo of the pencils and put it on my blog (sorry for the rambling tho'!)

Felicity - Thank you. I wasn't too confident about this one, particularly because it was going to be closely examined IRL!

I loved seeing your perspex pencil pots, thank you and really enjoyed your 'rambling'.
