Isn't He Romantic

For those of you, Dear Readers, who think HWEM is only a purloiner of studios, a savage wit and a pedant, here is proof positive that he has a romantic streak. Yesterday he presented me with with this rosebud from the garden. This was an unexpected and most welcome gesture from the man who proposed with a cob of corn, but that's another story.

We inherited this rose bush with our garden, so if anyone can identify it from the photo below I'd be delighted. It begins life as a deep pink bud but by the time the flower reaches maturity it is almost cream. I think it is an old variety and very sweet because the bugs love it.

Today is Wednesday - Oil Painting Group! I haven't posted any progress photos of my dreaded first oil painting. It is progressing slowly because I still haven't a clue what I'm doing. I do love my afternoons at Miranda's studio though. You will find some photos here on Le Santucce website.

That kind of behaviour needs to be stamped out...it makes the rest of us look bad! :)

I'm no expert, but it does look like an old rose. They seem to have the best scent, but don't flower for as long. I like your drawing; the little touches of pink on the stem and main leaf veins are nicely observed.

Robyn, I think you have a keeper in HWEM - romantic and encouraging together in one man!! You also have a keeper in the rose bush. It is beautiful! I'm glad it wasn't yanked out to make way for veggies. :D

So soft and delicate -- beautifully rendered, Robyn! Wish I knew the name -- but around here in NC, bugs love ALL the roses -- sweet or not!

I've e-mailed a friend in the UK who is a horticulturalist(!) and asked her if she knows what it is. If she doesn't her dad probably will!

I love old roses. Is it highly scented? Very English looking anyway :)

What a lovely romantic gesture from your husband! I'm not good on naming flowers at all, so I can't help. The sketch of the bud came out really nice. Did you use pencils for it?

I checked out the studio website. It looks like a very nice place to paint. Enjoy! Ciao.

It looks like a peace rose to me.

Beautiful job on that rosebud, and what a nice gesture from your husband.

Dave - thank you and it is highly unlikely that HWEM will let the side down again in the near future. LOL.

Stacy - Thank you. I think I will keep them both. ;)

Lin - Thank you. Your comments always delight.

Alyson - That is very sweet of you. For some reason I can't smell this particular rose, yet HWEM can. Maybe it is only for the pure of heart. lol

Joan - Many thanks. Yes, these are watercolour pencils without the water. I really need to get back into my watercolours, they are so much faster! Glad you enjoyed the glimpse of Le Santucce. I should have said I have no business interest, just very grateful that I found Miranda and her so friendly band of artists.

Anni - I'll call it a Peace Rose unless I'm advised otherwise. What a lovely surprise to find you visiting the blog. You know what the next step is!

Casey - TY - It was a nice gesture :) We always tease each other, but I wouldn't swap him!

This is a beautiful rendering of your rose Robyn - the way you handled the color variations on the stem and leaves is wonderful. But really, someday you must tell us the story of the corn cob.

juj - Thank you so much! As for the 'corn cob' story - I'll have to think about that!

What would we do without some romance!! Wonderful drawing of a beautiful rose and yes...it could be a "Peace" by the looks of it.
Lovely work.
