Robin - watercolour

Watercolour on Bristol Board 24 x 16cms

Anyone wondering when I'm going to get sick of robins?  I'm still experimenting with watercolour on different grounds.  Bristol board loves graphite and pen as I recall but it didn't allow me to achieve the effect I am after with watercolour.  So now I'm painting some acrylic gel on hp watercolour paper.  I might spare you the results.

Robyn - I'm getting a very strong sense of the "artist's style" coming through in these recent ones. The sort of thing which says "this is me, this is what I like". It's as if you've found a way to mix the printing marks in painting.

Bring on more Robins! They certainly brighten up my inbox!

Katherine - thank you. You know how long I've been longing for some sign of personal style. I really must thank artist George James as a recent source of inspiration. His video workshops have been tremendous.

One would think that with all the millions of robins that have been painted, it would not be possible to achieve something so uniquely delightful as the three enchanting little birds you've shown us this week. I too am obsessed with your tapestry-like grounds -- please don't spare us any of your results!

Thanks so much, Charlene. I'm feeling more scientist at the moment seeking the perfect ground. I love making the texture and patterns.

Ann, thank you too your comments are most appreciated.

As yet not tried this Bristol Board. As you say I think it suits pen work rather than watercolour.

It is great that you are experimenting to find what suits your style. Both of these robins are beautiful! This one seems to stand out a little more, but it is hard to tell since I'm sure the computer doesn't really do the one done on the gold ground justice. Thanks for sharing your work!!! Ciao!

Jane. Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I've loved your watercolours this year.

Joan - Ciao and thanks. Of course the experiments are endless.

Hi Robyn, this is a big surprise to me. The color combination is beautiful. Does the gold ground "pull the colors together" ?

Merry Christmas!
Martin

Hi Martin. The gold gives me a middle value to work around, but I think I'm going to have to try some white gouache on it next time. Delighted you like it. And a very Merry Christmas to you too.
