Monotype and a Blogger Visit

Con Sale 15 x 16cm monotype

It's been a busy week. Joan Tavolott Watercolours by Joan made a whirlwind visit from her holiday base in Venice. We walked in the hills and painted in town. Joan completed a beautiful postcard-size watercolour of a Castiglion Fiorentino alleyway. I didn't complete my painting of an old door - too busy talking! Next day I travelled as far as Florence with Joan in order to introduce her to my favourite art shop, Zecchi. Unfortunately they had closed for the August holidays. We compensated ourselves for the disappointment by buying Lamy Safari pens.

Joan also got a taste of printmaking while she was here. I found the monotype above where I left it drying weeks ago. It's a rare departure into the abstract for me.

Joan has been painting Venice at the rate of two pictures per day for the past month so her blog is a feast of little watercolour gems. Inspiring!

You should make departures such as this a little less rare! I love to see your perfect little representative paintings of life in Italy - because the life they depict is just so lovely (and I really like Joan's too)... but surprises like this monotype -- that looks like you were just having fun, and it TURNED OUT! -- are a special treat.

Love this monotype Robyn and how nice for you and Joan T to meet up when she was visiting Italy. Anita and I plan to make a trip next year, maybe we could do the same?? I would love it. Popped over to see her work especially of Venice, as I was there last year when staying at Lake Garda with my husband. Glad y ou purchased the Lamy Safari pens, I have a white one and simply love it for sketching. It never lets you down and flows beautifully.

How lovely to meet Joan! And you have another visitor comign soon I believe. I love the colours in your abstract monoprint. I'm about to get into solar plates again in a couple of weeks (winter printmaking down at Reverse Garbage).

This is lovely. Thanks for watching over "our Joan". We enjoy her fine drawings and spirit on the Scavenger Hunts. Later.....

This abstract makes me think of mysterious underground water rushing past pipes or building foundations - just love it Robyn, what a success! Lovely to see Joan's watercolours and glimpse of Castiglion Fiorentino too - familiar but different!
