A few of my favourite things - gouache

Gouache & Collage 29 x 29cm

Ducks, feathers, eggs, lavender, butterflies and the Tuscan landscape are some of my favourite things. The hidden favourite is the inspiration of British artist, Mary Fedden.

The idea for this painting has been stewing ever since I was sitting admiring a host of butterflies around a lavender bush and along came a duck - chomp!

Do I love this composition and colour palette - one of your best works in my opinion. You should bevery proud of how these ideas all came together so fresh and delightfully.

Oh, ducks have no couth! But it makes for a delightful painting, I love the pattern, colour and humour - going to look up Mary Fedden now...

Great painting! Is it the table that is collage?

Joan - Thanks, I had a struggle with the colour palette. Much work to do before MF recognises she's an inspiration ;)

Cathy - Thank you, Cathy. I hope you enjoy MF, I do wish she were still teaching, but she's still painting after so many years and that is wonderful.

Shirley - TY. Glad you like it. Actually it's the butterflies that are collage. I painted them on another piece of paper but I'm hoping in future to make use of my discarded prints and paintings - goodness knows, I have enough of them.

Interesting. I like the duck chomping on the butterfly - mother nature being realistic.

Different, fun, clever and I love the colors! It also made me laugh, so I can add funny to the list of adjectives. Great job, Robyn!

I see this as a metaphorical take on the fate of Cosmo Tyrrell.

Sue - I can't watch documentaries about nature's beautiful creatures because before too long, along comes another and ... CHOMP!

Candy - Thank you. You were meant to laugh :)

Katherine - Thank you too. Of course I've just discovered MF will go on giving lessons through her beautiful body of work.

Casey T. - You are wonderful! You've given me the confidence to start another - immediately :)

Casey K. - I'm delighted you like this. Thank you.

Dermott - You have a one track mind! Wait until you see what I'm painting next.

Wow...... pieces like these are so hard to make them work. Yet you have done just that and to top it off with humor. Your sense of design is fabulous and I love your execution of these feathers and the butterfly coming off the painting is such a nice detail. All of it is wonderful.
Please make more of these !

Cathy - I don't believe it! I painted that whole picture yesterday and I had no idea I was giving myself a present for Mary Fedden's birthday! :) It's actually brought a tear to my eye.

Dominique - I'm glad I sent your little watercolour prize off before you said such nice things, or people would be demanding a recount. :)

Robyn, I like this! Thanks for your gouache tip that you gave me. And thank you and Graham for being so wonderful when I visited last week. I felt like I had my own private tour leaders!!!

What a terrific arrangement of a selected few of the "wish I were there" components of your place in Tuscany. I hope this initial triumph will lead to more permutations and combinations of the other local delights and settings you have shown us...

This is really wonderful - love the composition, flat table, and disparate elements. Very creative.

Love this one too robyn...both your compostions are so exciting..and I love the story here...the duck came along and chomped the butterfly...it could be a story accompanying your painting..
