Lucignano Sketches Pen & Watercolour

Pen & watercolour - Moleskine watercolour sketchbook

Yesterday was a perfect day - warm sunshine chasing away the winter chill, lunch with delightful friends at a great restaurant in Lucignano, one of the prettiest little Tuscan hill-top towns, and I managed two sketches!

Robyn -- you're teasing me into getting VERY axious to be there!! These are glorious -- filled with warmth and beauty and the wonderful, painterly way you have!!!! Can't wait to see you in just a bit of time!

Lin - Thank you.:) It suddenly dawned on me that I would soon be heading out to paint with you and I am so rusty.:O So really these sketches are because of you!

Lucky Lin coming out to stay with you and sketch together. Charming little studies Robyn. Fancy thinking you have to practice before Lin arrives!!Have a great time.

It looks lovely there Robyn. And quite spring like! I'm envious as I see out the window the snow blowing horizontally...

Joan - Lin is a moving target, she's painting all over the place. I'm going to catch up with her at one of her stops. I'm very much looking forward to it.

I'm so jealous that you and Lin are going to get together!!! Won't that be fun. I love the wc of the town...so Tuscan, and the table flowers are lovely!!

How wonderful to see you sketching again, although you've certainly been producing amazing work in other media! It does look as though I will only have a chance to see you, if at all this year, in September while I'm in Brittany. Not sure even then. The economy is so very dismal. But your sketches are lovely and cheering!

Gorgeous sketches :D I really like how you have rendered the brick, just enough to suggest the shape and texture of the brick :)

oh you two will have a grand time! I loved my day with you even though we never got around to sketching!

Tuscany in the Spring - perfect time! Pretty terracotta colours in the first sketch.

Both sketches are very spring-like. However I'm glad you've now got a chance to sketch with a view to recreating scenes as prints!

Jeanette - Do you get a mass of wildflowers when the snow finally disappears? I'm looking forward to the wildflowers here.

Laura - Yes, the economy stinks, I'll keep my fingers crossed for September. Failing everything else at least I'll see your Brittany sketches.

Jennifer - thank you :)

Marta - You should have been more bossy with me. I've never quite gotten over the fact that I didn't sketch with you after all our plans.

Anita - Thank you. This is rather a tentative step into painting en plein air, I know ;) I'll make it eventually.

Katherine -Neither of these sketches is going to evolve into a print, but I'll take it as a gentle nudge to focus on the references I really need at the moment.

It's great to see all those printmakers flocking to your blog!

Robyn - I always love your plein air sketches of the area!!! Those hill towns are so lovely. I'm jealous that you and Lin will be plein air painting together...definitely makes me want to fly over! Ciao!

Robyn, you have such a delicate and lovely style in your sketches. They are truly works of art.

although I am not an artist...I loved the drawing of Lucignano...your bird srawings from a time before were awesome and I really loved the drawing you did in Venice...where I am presently living...Jil

Joan - Thank you :) I'll go anywhere (within reason) to meet up and sketch with you when next you are here.

Mary - You are too kind, much too kind. But I love you for it.

Casey - Thanks, I felt the top one was a little old fashioned but at least I did a sketch on the run. It's a start. And yes, you'll have to keep up your watercolours in your sketchbook at least, while you paint in oils.

Jil - Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate your encouragement. I'm sure everyone here is very envious of you living in Venice. Did you enjoy Carnavale?

I tried to say that I recognise those flowers (alstromeria), but Blogger ate me!

Dinah - I needed you here while I was posting. I couldn't remember the name.

Carnevale was ok but to be honest I am a bit jaded about it lately...it was my third in a row and it was very very crowded...like new years in ties square...which I don't like but I had a friend and she had never been...if you are interested in seeing my website where I have some photos let me know Jil
